What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device to store information. Similar technologies such as localStorage allow websites to remember preferences and state within your browser. We use both cookies and localStorage on our site.
How we use cookies and similar technologies
When you first visit MatchMyTrainer, we collect anonymous analytics data without storing cookies on your device. A consent banner lets you accept or decline optional cookies. If you accept, we enable cookie-based analytics and load the Meta advertising pixel. If you decline, we continue to collect anonymous analytics using in-memory storage only, and the Meta pixel is not loaded.
Cookies and technologies we use
The table below lists the specific cookies and storage items used on our site.
Strictly necessary
These are essential for the site to function. They cannot be disabled.
| Name / Technology | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-* | Cookie | Supabase authentication session. Keeps you signed in and identifies your account securely. | Session |
| mmt-cookie-consent | localStorage | Remembers whether you accepted or declined optional cookies so we do not ask again. | Persistent |
Analytics (requires consent)
These help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve the experience. They are only activated if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner.
| Name / Technology | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| ph_*_posthog | localStorage + Cookie | PostHog analytics. Stores a distinct user ID and session data for anonymous usage analytics (page views, interactions, performance metrics). When consent is pending or declined, PostHog uses in-memory storage only and no cookies are set. | Persistent |
Marketing (requires consent)
These are used to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. They are only loaded if you accept cookies.
| Name / Technology | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _fbp | Cookie | Meta Pixel. Identifies your browser so Meta can attribute ad clicks and measure conversions. | 90 days |
| _fbc | Cookie | Meta Pixel. Stores click identifiers when you arrive from a Meta ad so conversions can be attributed. | 90 days |
Functional
These store user interface preferences. They do not track you and are not shared with third parties.
| Name / Technology | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| mmt-install-dismissed | localStorage | Remembers that you dismissed the "Add to Home Screen" install banner so it does not appear again. | Persistent |
How to manage cookies
When you first visit our site, a banner at the bottom of the page asks you to accept or decline optional cookies. Strictly necessary cookies (such as authentication) are always active because they are essential for the site to function.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking all cookies may affect site functionality, including the ability to stay signed in.
Changing your preference
To change your cookie preference after making a choice, clear your browser's local storage for this site. The easiest way is to open your browser's developer tools, navigate to the Application or Storage tab, and delete the mmt-cookie-consent entry from localStorage. On your next visit, the consent banner will appear again.
We acknowledge this process could be simpler and plan to add a dedicated preference control in a future update.
